Case of the week: PCI with IVUS to Reduce Contrast Volume

MaxCure Hospitals – Center for Complex Angioplasties

“72 year old male, status post by-pass surgery in 2008, status post lung surgery (lobectomy) was admitted with acute heart attack. He had significant renal dysfunction with a serum creatinine of 2.5 mg/dL. Angiogram & subsequent Angioplasty will further worsen renal dysfunction, to avoid this complication we at MaxCure Hospitals used IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) to reduce contrast volume usage during these procedures.

We did angioplasty with less than 20 ml of contrast injection against 200 – 300 ml of usage normally. We at MaxCure Hospitals did 10 such cases in last 1 year without any further decrease in kidney function.”
